Physics 610a --- The Spring 2009 inquisition

Times:   Mondays, Wednesdays, 5:00-6:15pm (NOTE change from previous years). First class is Monday 26th January)
Prerequisite:  Physics 410. [ie. undergraduate Quantum Mechanics].

We probably won't cover everything that's in the Schedule :
"Physical and mathematical basis of quantum mechanics. Wave mechanics and the Schroedinger Equation, matrices and Hilbert space, angular momentum and spin, atomic structure, bound-state perturbation theory, many particle systems, transition rates and time-dependent perturbation theory, scattering, and relativistic quantum mechanics."

The material that isn't covered will be covered and more in the Physics 610B elective (given enough BoS!)

Textbook is required: Principles of Quantum Mechanics, R. Shankar (2nd edition) based on chapters 1,4,5,7,12,13,14,16,17 .
(optional: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (2nd edition) David J. Griffiths, also recommended Modern Quantum Mechanics J.J. Sakurai).
