Class webpage: www.physics.sdsu.edu/~mbromley/teaching/phys610spri2006/

Classroom:  P-149

Times:   Mondays, Wednesdays, 5:30-6:45pm

Prerequisite:  Physics 610. [so, indirectly you will be expected to have done Phys 350 (classy mech), Math 342B (methods in applied math), and {Phys 354 (modern phys) OR Chem 610A (physical chem)}].

Lecturer:  Dr. Michael Bromley

My office:  P-139

Email:   mbromley@physics.sdsu.eduZZZ

I will be in my office for two hours (3pm-5pm) before each class dedicated to Physics 610 help. For other times send me an email to see if/when i'm in (esp. Tuesdays / Thursdays).

Syllabus is now up. We probably won't cover everything that's in the Schedule :
"Physical and mathematical basis of quantum mechanics. Wave mechanics and the Schroedinger Equation, matricies and Hilbert space, angular momentum and spin, atomic structure, bound-state perturbation theory, many particle systems, transition rates and time-dependent perturbation theory, scattering, and relativistic quantum mechanics."

The stuff that isn't covered will be covered and more in Physics 610B

Textbook is required: Principles of Quantum Mechanics, R. Shankar (2nd edition) based on chapters 1,4,5,7,12,13,14,16,17 and, if time, bits of 18.
(optional: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (2nd edition) David J. Griffiths, also recommended Modern Quantum Mechanics J.J. Sakurai).

Lecture notes:

I try (most of the time) to get my lecture notes up here the day before each class.
See the timeline, and click on each lecture link.

The Timeline is constantly being updated...
