Abstract: Brachytherapy of prostate carcinoma, or interstitial treatment of prostate cancer, has been a common practice since the early 1970's. While past researchers have focused largely on the choice of isotopes, seed placement, benefits of computer planning, dosimetry, etc., clinical use of linked seed implants has emerged as a potentially more stable and predictable positioning option to physicians than their non-linked predecessors. This research evaluates the conformality of non-linked and linked permanent prostate implant treatments to their respective patient treatment plans, on the basis of coverage index and dose homogeneity index, to demonstrate a modest improvement in plan fidelity with the use of linked seeds.
