" Encoding Diffractive optical elements onto liquid crystal displays "

Diffractive optical elements allow incredible freedom in the design of optical systems. In this talk, I will introduce the concepts behind these devices, and show some of the amazing applications that they allow. I'll show how we can encode them onto programmable liquid crystal displays and discuss some of our recent research including generating optical vortices, Ince-Gaussian laser beams, and non-diffracting random intensity patterns.
