"A linear approach to what prospective elementary school teachers understand about energy"

2:00 pm in room P-148

Abstract:  The concept of energy is not simple. Since we are young we learn about this word but when we get to a science class, particularly physics, the word may take an entire new meaning. Researchers in education have recognized that instruction must address students' initial ideas to help them develop an acceptable model of energy. What conceptions do prospective elementary school teachers have about energy, and how do they apply it? This presentation will provide preliminary results from a survey and a first round of interviews with students that are to become teachers for future generations.
