Professor Wallace is active in research in the history of science and technology especially in the history of chemical oceanography (where he is regarded as one of the foremost experts) and WWII technological and scientific innovation. He taught oceanography and is the co-author of one of the country's most successful introductory oceanographic college texts, now in fifth edition. Professor Wallace has completed an introductory level college physical science text based on an historical approach.
