Physics 610a The Spring 2008 Story

Classroom:  P-149

Times:   Tuesdays, Thursdays, 5:00-6:15pm
Prerequisite:  Physics 410. [ie. undergraduate Quantum Mechanics].

There are two Lecturers: 22nd Jan to 26th Feb is Weber, after that is Bromley.
Lecturer:  Prof. Fridolin Weber (Office   P-142, Phone 619-594-0239)
Email: fweber@sciences.sdsu.eduZZZ
Lecturer:  Dr. Michael Bromley (Office:  P-139, Phone 619-594-6161)
Email: mbromley@physics.sdsu.eduZZZ

Office hours are before each class (3.30pm-4.30pm) dedicated to Physics 610 help. For other times send us an email to see if/when we're around.

The Syllabus contains detailed course /grading / exam information, as well as an estimated timeline. We probably won't cover everything that's in the Schedule :
"Physical and mathematical basis of quantum mechanics. Wave mechanics and the Schroedinger Equation, matrices and Hilbert space, angular momentum and spin, atomic structure, bound-state perturbation theory, many particle systems, transition rates and time-dependent perturbation theory, scattering, and relativistic quantum mechanics."

The material that isn't covered will be covered and more in the Physics 610B elective (pending future demand)!

Textbook is required: Principles of Quantum Mechanics, R. Shankar (2nd edition) based on chapters 1,4,5,7,12,13,14,16,17 .
(optional: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (2nd edition) David J. Griffiths, also recommended Modern Quantum Mechanics J.J. Sakurai).
